Sacraments at SJC School

Reconciliation and Eucharist:

Two of the most important faith moments of second grade at St. John of the Cross Parish School are the reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. In Religion class students discuss the concepts of belonging to a Christian community, showing responsibility for ourselves and others, listening to God’s Word through Bible stories, and participating more fully in a Christian life through the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Reconciliation. Children are introduced to many different kinds of prayer, and classroom discussions allow them to learn more about respect, integrity and our responsibility to care for God’s creation. We actively participate in school liturgies, including liturgies directed toward the primary grades in particular, and we learn music to enhance our worship.

Confirmation:

The Sacrament of Confirmation by which we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit, strengthen our Baptismal vows and completes our initiation into the Holy Catholic Church.

As stated here in the Catechism of the Catholic Church…” The Sacraments of Christian initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist – lay the foundation of the Christian life. The Faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the Sacrament of Confirmation, and receive in the Eucharist the food of eternal life.” C.C. C. 1212

Our Confirmation program is a two year journey of faith, involving a commitment to attending the Sunday Mass, participation in small faith group meetings and service opportunities, attending guest speaking events, retreats and engaging in several other Confirmation requirements, which can be found in the youths Confirmation Handbook. Confirmation ultimately leads the youth towards a more intimate union with Christ and active participation in the Holy Catholic Church.
