STREAM

STREAM at SJC

Our STREAM program provides students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, and innovation. As the skills needed for future success continue to evolve, STREAM education helps students develop critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and real-world application skills.

Building on the foundation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), STREAM expands learning by incorporating Religion, Reading, and the Arts, creating a more comprehensive approach that connects faith, creativity, and inquiry.

Through STREAM experiences, students explore meaningful challenges, design solutions, and apply their learning across multiple disciplines—preparing them to become confident, creative, and thoughtful problem-solvers.

STREAM Strategies

At St. John of the Cross Parish School, our STREAM program emphasizes project-based and problem-based learning that encourages students to think critically, collaborate, and apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.

Our STREAM approach is supported through two key strategies:

Curriculum Integration
Students make meaningful connections across subject areas by applying skills and concepts from multiple disciplines. For example, a design project may incorporate engineering principles, scientific research, mathematical problem-solving, technology skills, and creative expression through the arts.

Cross-Grade Curricular Articulation
Teachers collaborate across grade levels to ensure students build upon previously learned skills and concepts. Each grade level intentionally prepares students with the knowledge and abilities needed for continued growth and success in future grades.

Through collaboration among faculty and staff, SJC provides a cohesive STREAM experience that develops innovative thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and lifelong learners.

What is STEM Education?

STEM education integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills. Introduced by the National Science Foundation in 2001, STEM prepares students to apply their learning to real-world challenges and future opportunities.

What is STEAM Education?

STEAM education builds upon STEM by adding Art to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This approach encourages creativity, design, and innovation, allowing students to explore concepts through hands-on experiences and express their learning in new and meaningful ways.

What is STREAM Education?

STREAM education expands upon STEM and STEAM by adding Reading, Writing, and Religion, creating a truly interdisciplinary approach to learning. By integrating these areas, students develop stronger communication, research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

At SJC, faith is at the center of everything we do. Religion is intentionally woven throughout our curriculum, allowing students to connect their learning with their faith and their call to serve others.

Through STREAM, students engage in meaningful, cross-curricular experiences that prepare them to communicate effectively, think creatively, and apply their knowledge to the challenges of today and tomorrow.
